St. Athanasisus Orthodox Church formally dedicated

[Nicholasville, KY] The St. Athanasius Orthodox Church parking lot was overflowing this past weekend as Jessamine County's first Eastern Orthodox Christian parish celebrated the formal dedication of the community's new church building. St. Athanasius parish, already occupying its new north Nicholasville premises for the past six months, hosted clergy and laity from half-dozen other Orthodox parishes from across Kentucky. Many friends of the parish, including Nicholasville Mayor Pete Sutherland and his wife Sylvia, were present to mark the successful completion of the parish's 4-year-Building Project. With nearly 200 people in attendance, the 60-family north Nicholasville congregation also welcomed two Orthodox Christian bishops to preside over the prayers of blessing and dedication. As part of their pastoral visit to St. Athanasius, Archbishop Nikon Liolin of Boston and Bishop Mark Maymon of Philadelphia ordained a deacon, Simeon Siskar, to serve the Jessamine County Orthodox community. The newly-ordained Deacon Simeon Siskar will assist the parish pastor, Fr. Justin Patterson, in his duties ministering to the needs of the members of St. Athanasius and others in the Nicholasville community.
