St. Herman of Alaska Celebrated at St. Tikhon’s Summer Camp - 07/05/2015

Saint Tikhon’s Summer Camp program welcomed 101 campers and 53 counselors for its 44th season, which took place on the grounds of St. Tikhon’s Monastery and Seminary the week of July 5-11. Children from all over Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Ohio - and as far away as Florida and Massachusetts - gathered together for a beautiful week of playing and praying together.
In honor of the 45th anniversary of the OCA’s canonization of Saint Herman of Alaska, the camp’s theme focused on the life of St. Herman, his miracles, his prophesies, and the personal qualities that endeared him to others, especially the Native American people in Alaska.
In addition to their usual swimming, boating, arts & crafts, and sports activities, our campers enjoyed a robust cultural education program that included elective classes in iconography, ethnic dancing, and pysanky egg decorating.

Saint Tikhon’s Summer Camp is a one-week sleep-away camp program for Orthodox Christian children between the ages of 7 and 17. The camp is sponsored by the Diocese of Eastern Pennsylvania of the Orthodox Church in America and is held on the grounds of St. Tikhon’s Monastery and Seminary annually during the first week of July. Our participants enjoy a superior religious education program and daily church services, as well as plenty of outdoor recreational activities with their peers.
