Word, Image, and Song: Campers Embrace Liturgical Arts in 2016 - 07/03/2016

Saint Tikhon’s Summer Camp program welcomed 104 campers and 56 counselors this season, which took place on the grounds of St. Tikhon’s Monastery and Seminary the week of July 3-9.
This year, the camp theme focused on Liturgical Arts. Campers spent time each day in workshop sessions learning about icons, church architecture, songs and psalms, sacred space, and processions. As an enhancement to the theme, campers were offered the opportunity to attend an early-morning Divine Liturgy at the monastery church with the monastic brotherhood of St. Tikhon’s. Campers also enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime chance to ring the bells of the Monastery Bell Tower under the supervision of Fr. Innocent Neal.
In addition to their usual swimming, boating, arts & crafts, and sports activities, our campers enjoyed a robust cultural education program that included elective classes in iconography, ethnic dancing, and pysanky egg decorating!
