Wilkes Baree Deanery Meeting - 10/08/09

A meeting of the Wilkes-Barre Deanery was held on Thursday, October 8 at Holy Resurrection Orthodox Cathedral in Wilkes-Barre. The meeting began with the celebration of an Akathist to St Alexis of Wilkes-Barre before his holy relics. His Grace, Bishop Tikhon, celebrated the Akathist and the responses were sung by the clergy of the Deanery.

Following this service, the deanery clergy assembled in the Church for their meeting at which many issues facing the deanery were discussed. The primary purpose of the meeting was the elections for deanery officers and the following were elected for a three years term:

Dean:    Archpriest Daniel Kovalak (Holy Cross, Williamsport)

Assistant Dean:  Archpriest David Shewczyk (Holy Trinity, Wilkes-Barre)

Secretary:   Priest Nicholas Solak (Holy Trinity, Stroudsburg)

Treasurer:  Priest David Cowan (All Saints, Olyphant)

Other items discussed were the possibility of chartering a bus to encourage deanery participation in the annual March for Life, which will take place on January 22, 2010. Details of the upcoming Diocesan Assembly in Bethlehem (December 4-5, 2009) were also discussed and several suggestions were made concerning procedures for election of Diocesan and Metropolitan Council Members.

Following the meeting, a meal was served in the Church hall through the generous work of Matushka Gloria and parish volunteers.
