PHILADELPHIA, PA [DOEPA]

On Saturday, August 1, 2026, Assumption of the Holy Virgin Church in Philadelphia, PA, hosted its first community produce distribution, welcoming neighbors from the surrounding area and providing fresh fruits and vegetables to local families in need.

More than 20 parishioners volunteered their time to organize, prepare, and distribute over 50 bags of fresh produce during the outreach event. Through the dedicated efforts of the volunteers, every bag was distributed within approximately two hours, making the inaugural initiative a successful expression of the parish's commitment to serving its local community.

The produce distribution reflected the parish's ongoing desire to extend Christian love beyond the walls of the church through acts of charity and service, particularly as the faithful began the Dormition Fast, a season marked by prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Parishioners worked together throughout the afternoon, greeting visitors and ensuring that those in the neighborhood had access to fresh fruits and vegetables in a welcoming and compassionate environment. Encouraged by the overwhelming response from the community and the dedication of its volunteers, Assumption of the Holy Virgin Church looks forward to hosting another produce distribution next month, continuing its mission of serving both the faithful and the broader Philadelphia community through practical expressions of Christ's love.
