PHILADELPHIA, PA [DOEPA]

On August 28, 2026, the clergy and faithful of Theotokos of the Life-Giving Spring Mission in Philadelphia, PA, gathered to celebrate the Dormition of our Most Holy Lady the Mother of God and Ever-Virgin Mary according to the Julian Calendar. The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Archpriest Nikolai Gulin, Rector.

28 авгуÑ�та 2026 года, духовенÑ�тво и прихожане миÑ�Ñ�ии в чеÑ�Ñ‚ÑŒ иконы Божией Матери «Ð–ивоноÑ�ный ИÑ�точник» в Филадельфии, штат ПенÑ�ильваниÑ�, Ñ�обралиÑ�ÑŒ на праздник УÑ�пениÑ� ПреÑ�вÑ�той Владычицы нашей Богородицы и ПриÑ�нодевы Марии по юлианÑ�кому календарю. БожеÑ�твенную литургию Ñ�овершил наÑ�тоÑ�тель миÑ�Ñ�ии протоиерей Ð�иколай Гулин.

The Feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos commemorates her blessed passage from earthly life into life eternal. Although the feast reminds us of her departure from this earthly world, it is filled with hope and joy, proclaiming the victory of her Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, over death.

Праздник У�пени� Пре�в�той Богородицы по�в�щен Ее блаженному переходу от земной жизни к жизни вечной. Хот� �тот праздник напоминает нам о Ее уходе из земного мира, он и�полнен надежды и радо�ти, возвеща� победу Ее Сына, Го�пода нашего Ии�у�а Хри�та, над �мертью.

The Troparion of the feast proclaims:

“In giving birth, you preserved your virginity, and in falling asleep you did not forsake the world, O Theotokos. You passed into life as the Mother of Life.”

«Ð’ РождеÑ�тве девÑ�тво Ñ�охранила еÑ�и, во УÑ�пении мира не оÑ�тавила еÑ�и, Богородице. ПреÑ�тавилаÑ�Ñ� еÑ�и к Животу, Мати Ñ�ущи Живота».

The Dormition is the final of the Twelve Great Feasts of the ecclesiastical year. Its celebration was preceded by the two-week Dormition Fast, which, although brief, is comparable in strictness to Great Lent. Through increased prayer, fasting, and repentance, the faithful prepare to honor the Dormition of the Mother of God and glorify her unceasing intercession for the Church and the entire world.

Его празднованию предше�твовал двухнедельный У�пен�кий по�т, который, хот� и непродолжителен, по �воей �трого�ти �равним � Великим по�том. Через у�иленную молитву, по�т и пока�ние верующие готов�т�� до�тойно почтить У�пение Матери Божией и про�лавить Ее непре�танное ходатай�тво за Церковь и ве�ь мир.
