Diocese Clergy and Laity Gather for Annual Assembly - 01/23/2020
Members of the Diocese of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania travelled to Christ the Saviour Orthodox Church on January 23 and 24 for the 56th Annual Diocesan Assembly.
The Assembly began on Thursday evening, January 23 with the formal opening. Following the procedural matters, His Eminence, Archbishop MARK delivered his message to the Assembly, followed by a question and answer period. Dinner was served, followed by Great Vespers at Christ the Saviour.
The attendees returned to the parish hall for a presentation by The Orthodox Church Capital Improvement Fund (OCCIF), which was created to assist parishes, missions, and monastic communities, who serve the canonical jurisdictions of Orthodox Bishops of the Orthodox Church in the United States, acquire, build, remodel, and refinance church-related properties. Fr. Thomas Soroka then delivered an address on Parish growth. A lot of time and consideration is spent when choosing the opening night presentation and speakers who address issues facing parishes in the Diocese. Social time ended the evening, with a robust agenda for Friday.
Friday began with Divine Liturgy at Christ the Saviour, with brunch afterwards. The various departments of the Diocesan Council then rendered their reports. The Treasurer’s report was presented, followed by the report from the Diocesan Auditors. The 2020 budget was proposed. Following a light meal, the remainder of the reports were presented, with question and answer periods. The Assembly wrapped up with Old Business, any new business and finally discussion on the 2021 Diocesan Assembly. All reports and information regarding the Diocesan Assembly are posted on the website for review.
