Golf Tournament for Benefit of St. Tikhon's - 09/29/17
On Friday, September 29, Ron Jaworski’s Ramblewood Country Club in Mt. Laurel, NJ was the site of the first, “Two Holies and a Saint” golf tournament which was jointly sponsored by the Orthodox Church of the Holy Cross in Medford, NJ, Assumption of the Holy Virgin Orthodox Church in Philadelphia, PA, and St. Stephen’s Orthodox Cathedral in Philadelphia. A beautiful fall day greeted the approximately 50 golfers who played the white and red nines at the course. Following registration, lunch snacks, and after purchasing their bag of mulligans, the golfers headed to the links for a 1 PM shotgun start. The golfers included Fr. Barnabas Fravel, Fr. Victor Gorodenchuk, and Fr. Mark Kozak, parishioners from St. Andrew’s in Baltimore, St. Herman in Glen Mills, Holy Cross in Medford, St. Michael’s in Wilmington, and St. Stephen’s in Philadelphia, and local golfing friends. Fr. John Shimchick from Holy Cross in Medford did not play but was at the course to welcome the registering golfers.
After an enjoyable round of golf, everyone headed to the dinner tent for a delicious buffet dinner and the awarding of golfing prizes, numerous door prizes, and auction items. Thanks to the combination of the best ball and mulligan format, the winning team shot a 55 (17 strokes under par) to win the championship. Prizes were also awarded for longest and straightest drives and closest to the pin on the par 3 holes. The tournament netted a profit of $1,050 which will be presented to St. Tikhon’s Seminary.
The tournament was successful due to the many hours of work put in by the Zlatkowski family.
Mat. Maggie Zlatkowski did a fantastic job in coordinating and organizing the outing but she was also assisted by Deacon George Zlatkowski and daughter Mimi Jacobs. To everyone who helped in any way and to all the hole sponsors, prize donors, and golfers, THANK YOU! We hope that this will, indeed, be an annual event, and we hope to see you next year.
